Dr. Cristian Piras graduated in biology at the University of Cagliari and obtained his Ph.D. in molecular medicine (University of Milan) by studying animal and human biofluids in relation to bacterial pathogens. As a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Milan, he exploited proteomics and mass spectrometry techniques for the improvement of animal welfare, food safety, and the fight against antibiotic resistance. He was a postdoctoral researcher for two years at the University of Reading (UK), dealing with the use of large-scale mass spectrometry for the diagnosis of bovine mastitis, the study of antibiotic resistance profiles, and food safety. Since July 2020, he has been a researcher at the University of Magna Graecia of Catanzaro and coordinator of the project "Enhancement and sustainability of typical animal production: omic methods for the traceability and enhancement of Calabrian dairy products". The research activities are oriented towards the study of animal welfare through the application of -omic sciences in relation to animal welfare and food safety operating under the umbrella of public and global health (OneHealth approach).
