Yunhua Luo earned his Ph.D.
from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, and is currently a Professor
in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manitoba. He
was a Research Fellow at Karlsruhe University (2000–2002), a Research Associate
at the Scientific Computation Research Center (SCOREC), Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute (RPI) (2002–2004), then joined the Department of Civil Engineering,
University of Manitoba as a Research Associate in 2004, then was appointed Assistant
Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2006, and was promoted to Associate
Professor in 2012. His research work has been devoted to the understanding and
solution of various mechanical and biomechanical problems by developing
advanced finite element methods and models. The involved research areas include
(1) Characterization and design of composite materials by developing novel
micromechanics and finite element models; (2) Understanding of biomechanical
and biomedical factors affecting bone strength and hip fracture by developing
multi-level biomechanics models; (3) Study of mechanistic causes of brain injury
and improvement of helmet performance for the prevention of concussion.
