Jianlog Zhao received a B.S. from Tsinghua University in 1992 and a Ph.D. from the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology (SIMIT) in 1997. Then, he joined the State Key Laboratory of Transducer Technology, SIMIT. He is a Professor with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and a Chief Scientist with the National Basic Research Program of China. He has served as an assistant researcher, an associate researcher, a researcher, a director of the Science and Technology Quality Department, and an assistant director of the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research interests include biomedical microelectromechanical systems and biosensors. He is mainly engaged in research on biochips and biosensors and has been responsible for many important scientific and technological projects, such as major projects of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, major projects of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the National 863 Plan. He was the chief scientist of the major project "Research and Application of Biochip Systems" of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Knowledge Innovation Project. He was awarded the Shanghai Outstanding Science and Technology Morning Star in 2001, the Shanghai Outstanding Subject Leader in 2006, and the third prize (ranked first) of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award in 2005.
