Prof. Sarel F. Malan is a professor and Director of the
School of Pharmacy, University of the Western Cape. He is an honorary life
member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Fellow and past
President of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa and a National Research
Foundation (NRF) B3-rated scientist. He has served in various capacities on
the executive committees of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and
the Pharmaceutical Society of SA. He is a member of expert committees of the South
African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) and the WHO and advisory panels
of the South African National Research Foundation (NRF), the Standards
Generating Body for Pharmacy, and the South African Pharmacy Council. He is an Associate Editor of Frontiers in Drug Discovery: Neurological Drugs and an
editorial board member of Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry. He is a
reviewer/evaluator for the National Research Foundation (Rating, funding, and
Innovation fund), MRC South Africa, and various scientific journals (the South
African Journal of Science, Organic Letters, Life Sciences, Letters in Organic
Chemistry, Metabolic Brain Disease, Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry,
the European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, and the European Journal of Pharmacology,
amongst others).
