Dr. Miaohua Mao earned his B.S. degree from Zhejiang University and later received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 2018. He is a Professor and Ph.D. Advisor at the Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research (YIC), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). His research focuses on nearshore hydrodynamics, numerical modeling, and wave–current interactions. Dr. Mao has published over 20 papers as first/corresponding author in leading journals in the fields of physical oceanography and numerical modeling, including the Journal of Physical Oceanography and the Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans and Ocean Modelling. He has presented at numerous international academic conferences, serving as Keynote Speaker, Session Chair, and even Outstanding Poster Presenter. In addition to reviewing proposals for the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), CAS International Cooperation, and different agencies in Shandong, Guangdong, and Beijing, Dr. Mao also evaluates Ph.D. theses from academic institutions. He is an active reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals, including Progress in Oceanography, Ocean Modelling, Water Resources Research, ECSS, Marine Pollution Bulletin, Ocean and Coastal Management, and JMSE. Notably, he received the 2018 Outstanding Reviewer Award from ECSS and the 2023 Outstanding Reviewer Award from JMSE. Dr. Mao also serves as Guest Editor for the SCI-indexed journal Water and is the Principal Investigator (PI) of several NSFC and CAS projects.
