Nguyen Ngoc Tung, Ph.D., is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Sciences, Hue University, Vietnam. He earned his Ph.D. in Global Environmental Studies from Kyoto University, Japan, in 2012 and holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from Chiang Mai University, Thailand. His research focuses on traditional architectural conservation, sustainable development, urban environmental impacts, vernacular architecture, and ethnic minority architecture.
Dr. Tung's work centers on the adaptive reuse of traditional garden houses in Hue, examining how socio-cultural dynamics and urbanization influence these structures. He has conducted extensive research on the architectural legacy of the French colonial period in Hue, analyzing how colonial urban planning and architectural styles have shaped contemporary cityscapes. His studies also extend to the preservation of traditional garden houses in Hue city and ethnic minority architecture, particularly the Guol and Rong houses of the Katu and Bana ethnic groups, proposing strategies for integrating indigenous knowledge with contemporary construction techniques.
