Author Biographies

Thijs Van Hauwermeiren received B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in Industrial Engineering from KU Leuven, Leuven, Belgium, in 2014 and 2015, respectively, and an M.Eng. degree in Engineering from Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium, in 2018. He is currently a researcher with the Department of Electromechanical Systems and Metal Engineering, Ghent University. His interests include model-based control in the context of (underactuated) robotics and the design of tactile end effectors.
Annelies Coene was born in 1988. She received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Ghent University, Belgium, in 2011 and 2017, respectively. In 2017, she became a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Research Foundation–Flanders (FWO). Her research interests include the merging of physics-based models with data-driven approaches to improve, monitor, and predict the performance of biomedical and mechatronic applications.
Guillaume Crevecoeur received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering Physics from Ghent University in 2004 and 2009, respectively. He received a Research Foundation–Flanders Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2009. He was appointed Associate Professor at Ghent University in 2014. He is a member of Flanders Make, which he leads at Ghent University in activities on machines, intelligence, robotics, and control. With his team, he conducts research on system identification and nonlinear control, mainly for mechatronics, industrial robotics, and energy systems. His goal is to endow physical dynamic systems with improved functionalities and capabilities when interacting with uncertain environments and other systems and humans.
