Patricia Escorcia graduated in biology from the National Pedagogical University of Colombia with her degree validated at the University of Valencia, Spain. She has a solid background in human genetics, including a stay at the Ricardo Jorge Institute in Lisbon, Portugal, where she specialized in cytogenetic and molecular studies in patients with sexual development disorders.
She worked for nearly eight years at the Human Genetics Institute of the Pontifical Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia, starting as a research assistant and advancing to instructor professor in the Faculty of Medicine, where she taught basic medical genetics. Eventually, she became the coordinator of the cytogenetic diagnostic unit.
In Spain, she joined the stem cell research group at the Valencian Institute of Infertility (IVI Foundation) and later joined Igenomix as a research technician, collaborating on endometrial study projects, particularly in the differential diagnosis of fibroids and sarcomas. Subsequently, she transitioned to the production laboratory area, where she worked in the ERA, EMMA, and NACE departments, consolidating her knowledge in numerous laboratory techniques. For the past two years, she has been part of the R&D department of the Vitrolife group, currently collaborating with the clinical studies area on various projects aimed at improving the reproductive diagnostic tests offered by the company.
