James A. Fitzsimons holds a Ph.D. from Deakin University and is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences of
the same university. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the School of Law, University of Tasmania, and as a Senior Advisor in Global Protection Strategies at The Nature Conservancy, Arlington. Prior to this, he also served as the Director of Conservation and Science (Australia Program) at The Nature Conservancy, Melbourne, and as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Deakin University. His main fields of research include conservation policy, private land conservation, and protected area policy and establishment.
