Ana Alexandre is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Évora. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 2003, and her Ph.D. in Biology in 2010 from the University of Évora. Her specialization includes molecular biology, microbiology, and plant-microbe interaction. In addition, her research area is rhizobia–legume symbiosis. Her research mostly studies the diversity of rhizobia as well as their tolerance to stress. She is also dedicated to the investigation of genes that may influence the symbiotic performance of rhizobia. More recently, she has been dealing with problems that originate from practice and that are limiting for the development of agricultural crops. She is currently involved in research related to the role of soil microbes on plant protection, and also in the study of soil microbial activity and its connection with the management of agroecosystems.
