Dr. Jana A. Hirsch is an Associate Research Professor of Epidemiology at
the Urban Health Collaborative, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She
holds a Ph.D. in Epidemiological Science from the University of Michigan and a
Master of Environmental Studies (MES) in Environmental Health from the
University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Hirsch’s research focuses on the intersection
of health and place, with expertise in health disparities, the built
environment, urban health, and spatial analysis using GIS. Her work examines
how neighborhood environments influence physical activity, mental and
behavioral health, and active aging, with a particular emphasis on age-friendly
neighborhoods.
Dr. Yvonne L. Michael is a Professor of Epidemiology and the Interim Chair
of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She earned her ScD in
Epidemiology and Health and Social Behavior, as well as her SM in Health and
Social Behavior, from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Michael’s
research focuses on social epidemiology, the epidemiology of aging, women’s
health, neighborhoods and health, and health disparities. Her work explores how
social and environmental factors influence health outcomes, particularly among
aging populations and women.
