Prof. Dr. Jun Xia is Professor in the School of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering at Wuhan University. He received his bachelor's degree in farmland water conservancy, master's degree in terrestrial hydrology, and doctorate in hydrology and water resources from Wuhan Institute of Water Resources and Electric Power (now Wuhan University). He joined Wuhan University Institute of Water Resources and Electric Power (formerly Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power) as a lecturer in 1985, then became an associate professor in 1987 and a professor in 1994. From April 2000 to December 2011, he was a researcher at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is the first Ph.D in Hydrology and Water Resources nurtured independently by China. He was also the first Chinese scholar to receive the International Hydrology Prize-Volker Medal. Ever since Prof. Jun Xia started his enduring study on hydrology and water resources in the 1970s, he has devoted strenuous efforts to this field. In 2011, he was awarded The International Prize for Outstanding Contributions to Water Management by the Third World Centre for Water Management (TWCWM). In 2009, he was elected the president of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA), becoming the first ever Chinese scholar to lead a major international water organization.
