Charilaos Latinopoulos is a Data Science and Modelling Expert at VLTN BV. He has over 10 years of combined research and data science experience, having worked in academia and in various tech startups in the mobility sector. He holds an MSc and a PhD in Transport from Imperial College London, where his research focused on the intersection of Behavioural Modelling (Discrete Choice Modelling) and Operations Research towards the development of innovative pricing methods for electric mobility stakeholders. Subsequently, Dr. Latinopoulos has been involved with research projects funded by the European Union, Innovate UK, EPSRC and the Department for Transport in the UK, designing multiple-choice experiments and building demand-side management solutions in the areas of EV fleets, Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), shared mobility and micromobility. He has delivered end-to-end Machine Learning products for forecasting and classification, solved operational problems in complex systems,
such as rail ticket auctions and ride hailing, with the combination of Graph Theory and Agent-Based Modelling. More recently, he is involved with maritime digital twin solutions, maritime operational optimization and agent-based social interaction simulation for consumer and corporate behaviour prediction.
Efstathios Zavvos is the Head of AI at VLTN BV. He holds a BSc in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) from the University of Hertfordshire, UK, an MSc in Artificial Intelligence and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Southampton, UK. He has researched several AI areas including Machine Learning, Intelligent Agents, Game Theory, Genetic Algorithms and Expert Systems, and he is strongly passionate about designing complex solutions and multiagent systems for challenging transportation problems. Research-wise, he is involved in areas such as shipping, logistics, food loss and waste reduction, emission reduction, as well as critical infrastructure protection and security.
Dr. Dimitrios Kaklis majored in Information and Communication Science from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens with a specialization in Theoretical Computer Science. He received an Industrial PhD scholarship from SNF (Stavros Niarchos Foundation), in collaboration with Harokopio University of Athens and NCSR Demokritos, on “Financial exergy maximization in maritime operations through the lens of AI”. He joined Danaos in 2017 as a Software Engineer and is currently working as Senior Research Engineer. Dr. Dimitrios Kaklis is the author of several papers and a participant-scientific advisor in several EU projects concerning ship operational optimization, safety and environmental compliance.
Veerle Leemen is the director of VLTN BV, responsible for project management and business development. Following her degree in languages, she worked in a number of transport and logistic research companies before founding VLTN in 2012. Veerle is a strong advocate for sustainable development and has directed the company in several related EU-funded projects to contribute toward the development of numerous research assets and ICT applications enabling Green Logistic Strategies and Capabilities. Veerle’s broader interests include developments in strategies for reducing food losses and waste at every stage of the food chain and particularly promoting health (high nutritional value) and environmental friendliness (GHG impact). Further, Veerle has developed a keen interest in green buildings and green cities with integrated green mobility, which is becoming a strategic research focus for VLTN.
