Author Biographies

Diogo M Neto received his PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Coimbra. His developed research work was awarded “Best PhD Thesis on Computational Mechanics 2014” by the Portuguese Association of Theoretical, Applied and Computational Mechanics. Currently, he is a researcher at the Centre for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes, as well as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Coimbra. Since completing his PhD, he has been working in the field of computational solid mechanics, aiming for the improvement and optimization of classical and recent manufacturing processes using numerical simulation. Lately, he extended his area of expertise to also cover the mechanical behavior of cracked components. He has implemented several recently developed numerical models and algorithms in the in-house finite element code DD3IMP. He has also been participating in several national and international research projects, including some in the field of metal additive manufacturing. His research interests include mechanical engineering, nonlinear computational mechanics, frictional contact, sheet metal formation and finite element method.
