Author Biographies

Dr. Marko Lucijanic graduated from the Zagreb University School of Medicine in 2010 and completed a PhD at the same institution in 2017. He is currently working as a Hematology Specialist at the University Hospital Dubrava, Zagreb, Croatia, and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Medicine University of Zagreb. His scientific interests are the biology of myeloproliferative neoplasms and translation from basic to clinical hematology. He is also interested in biostatistics, particularly survival analysis, clinical trial design, drug evaluation, and evidence-based medicine. He has published in top peer-reviewed journals like the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, JAMA Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, European Heart Journal, and others. For his professional and scientific contribution, he has received several awards and recognitions, including the Croatian Medical Chamber Award for Scientific Contribution to the Advancement of the Medical Profession in the category of scientists under 40 years of age, the KROHEM Foundation Award for Excellence and Scientific and Professional Achievements in Hematology, and was included in the list of the 2% of the world's most influential scientists in 2020 and 2022 based on the Stanford University list.

Prof. Rajko Kusec is a Specialist in Internal Medicine and a Subspecialist in Hematology. After graduating from the School of Medicine University of Zagreb and residency in internal medicine at Clinical Hospital Merkur, he was board-certified as a specialist in internal medicine in 1990. After postgraduate studies in hematology at the Medical University of Vienna, where he is a visiting professor, he joined the molecular hematology research group at the Nuffield Division of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NDCLS) at the University of Oxford. Upon returning to Zagreb, he obtained a doctoral degree in natural sciences (PhD) in 1998 and, since the year 2000, he has worked at the Department of Hematology at Clinical Hospital Merkur where he became a subspecialist hematologist in 2003. Since 2005. he is a consultant hematologist at the Department of Hematology at Clinical Hospital Dubrava in Zagreb, where he has been head of the Department since November 2021. Professor Kusec is the president of the Croatian Society of Hematology of Croatian Medical Association and member/board member of several distinguished national and international associations and hematology working groups (e.g. CROHEM, CEMPO, SWG MPN-EHA, EHOG).
