Dr.
Amanika Kumar, M.D., is a fellowship-trained Gynecologic Oncologist
specializing in complex surgeries for malignant and benign conditions, including
minimally invasive and open approaches. She is board certified in both
Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. She holds a dual
appointment both in the Gynecologic Surgery division and Medical Oncology. Dr.
Kumar's area of expertise includes quality of life in gynecologic cancer
patients, with a focus on patient- and family-centered cancer care that aligns
with a patient's values. Her research is focused on building resilience in
ovarian cancer patients, evaluating the effects of cancer treatments on muscle
mass and function, and multidisciplinary surgical approaches to complex cancer
cases. Dr. Kumar is active in quality improvement, leading several efforts in
the Division of Gynecologic Surgery. She is also active in education,
participating in medical student education as an Associate Clerkship director, and
is an active member of the Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic. She
is a member of the National Society of Gynecologic Oncology’s Education
Committee and Palliative Care Committee. She is also on the Patient Education
Committee of the Foundation for Women's Cancer and works closely with the
Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance.
