Celene Milanes completed her post-doctorate
in Geography at Universidad Federal do Para, Brazil (2017-2018). She has a Ph.D. in
Technical Sciences (2014), a Master's in Integrated Coastal Zone Management
(2004), and a Master's in Conservation and Rehabilitation of Built Heritage
(2003), Cuba. She works closely on SDGs, land-use planning, vulnerability, urban and coastal risk. She also focuses her research on governance and
public policy issues, coastal pollution, integrated ecosystems management, and urban resilience in small islands and coastal cities. She received the National
Award for the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Cuba (2020 and 2015), and
the Stephen Olsen International Chair in Integrated Coastal Management Award
(2021). She is Research Associate of Estación Científica (Coiba AIP), Panama and CEMarin, Colombia.
