Alba Bala is the Executive Director of the UNESCO Chair in Life Cycle and Climate Change at ESCI-UPF and the Director of the Master of Science in Sustainability Management, jointly offered by UPF-BSM and ESCI-UPF. Previously, she was a lecturer and researcher in EcoDesign and Environmental Analysis of Products at the ELISAVA School of Design, the School of Industrial Design (ESDI), and the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) at UAB. She has also worked as an environmental consultant. Her research areas include life cycle analysis (LCA), EcoDesign, environmentally correct purchasing, and the development of methodologies for comprehensive sustainability analysis and assessment. She is a member of the Spanish Network of Life Cycle Analysis. She was a finalist for the 2008 European Innova Award, given by the European Commission, DG Enterprise and Industry. She won the Design for Recycling Award in the project category, granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 2000.
Pere Fullana i Palmer is currently the Director of the UNESCO Chair in Life Cycle and Climate Change and is a Professor at ESCI-UPF (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona). In 1993, his engineering PhD included a chapter on environment and health issues and, from then on, he dedicated his professional life to develop, apply, and teach Sustainability Assessment from a life cycle perspective. In 1994, he performed his first life cycle assessment. In 2010, he participated in the carbon footprint standard GHG Protocol by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. In 2019, he was chosen to present the conclusions by the Academia at the Closing Plenary of COP25. His first award was for the Best Final Project in Chemical Engineering in 1988. His last one, “Sustainability Education Lifetime Achievement Award from Join EDuC”, was in 2023. In between, he/his Chair has received others from entities such as the International Society for Industrial Ecology, the European Commission, the Catalan Government, Global Compact or Springer.
Lela Melón is a former Marie Curie Research Fellow with a
legal and economics background. She is currently executive director of the
Planetary Wellbeing Institutional Framework at UPF and an associate professor of
Sustainability in Business Law at ESCI-UPF. She specializes in EU law, with a
focus on corporate conduct and sustainability, and she is currently researching
policy coherence for sustainability at the EU level, with particular interest in
corporate law policies.
Mercè Roca is a Researcher and
Associate Professor at ESCI-UPF. She is the Academic Coordinator of the
Official Master's Program at ESCI-UPF and Director of the Master of Science in
International Business jointly offered by ESCI-UPF and the UPF Barcelona School
of Management. Mercè obtained her PhD from The University of Leeds, Centre for
Decision Research, Leeds University Business School in 2006. Her research
includes publications and competitive projects linked to the application
of qualitative and quantitative market research techniques in the following
domains: international business management and marketing; consumer/citizen
behavior and decision making; sustainability, CSR, recycling, and behavior;
organizational practices towards sustainability; circular economy and
alternative market mechanisms; and the management of multiculturalism.
