Prof. Yan-gang Zhao is a National Distinguished Expert
(2011), a Foreign Academician of the Japan Academy of Engineering (2019), and a
Strategic Scientist of Beijing (2019). He received his doctorate in engineering
from the Nagoya Institute of Technology in 1996. He is the Secretary General of
the International Society for Earthquake Engineering of Lifelines and
Infrastructure, the Vice Chairman of the International Committee on
Optimization and Reliability of Structural Systems, and the Secretary General of
the Tokai Structural Committee of the Architectural Institute of Japan. He won
the Tokai Award of the Architectural Institute of Japan in 1997, the Best Paper
Award of the International Academic Journal of the Architectural Institutes of
Japan, China, and Korea in 2002, and the Architectural Institute of Japan Award
in 2008. His main research directions are reliability-based seismic design of
structures and structural reliability analysis considering parameter
uncertainty.
