Dr. Nancy E. Lane is a Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Rheumatology,
and Aging Research at the University of California Davis School of Medicine,
where she has worked for the past twenty years. She serves as the Principal
Investigator of the K12 Building Interdisciplinary Research in Women's Health
and previously was the principal investigator of the NIH-funded Program on Sex
Differences in Musculoskeletal Diseases Across the Lifespan. Dr. Lane is
Internationally recognized for her expertise in osteoporosis and
osteoarthritis, Dr. Lane's research has significantly advanced the
understanding of glucocorticoid-induced bone fragility, osteocyte
vulnerability, and innovative treatments for osteoporosis. At UC Davis, she
worked together with a scientific team and developed a novel compound to direct
stem cells for bone regeneration. In addition, she has performed epidemiologic
work that discovered genetic variations associated with an increased risk of
hip osteoarthritis. Her outstanding contributions have earned her numerous
accolades, including the UC Davis Dean's Award for Scientific Mentoring, the
American College of Rheumatology’s Oscar Gluck Memorial Lecture, the Remodeling
in Bone (RIB) Award, and the Bone and Joint Decade Outstanding Achievement
Award, as well as election to both the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of
Inventors.
