Prof. Fani Sousa is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Beira Interior (Portugal). She was a Vice-Coordinator of the CICS-UBI, Health Sciences Research Center at the University of Beira Interior between 2017 and 2021, and a Coordinator of the Biopharmaceuticals and Biomaterials research group at CICS-UBI from 2018 to 2021. She was also the Coordinator of the Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences research group between 2010 and 2014. Prof. Sousa received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 2008 and her Habilitation in 2024 from the University of Beira Interior. At a scientific level, her main research activity is related to Health Biotechnology, including the development of new biotechnological platforms for the production, recovery, purification, and stabilization of biological products for therapeutic application (biopharmaceuticals). She participated in 14 national- and European-funded projects and is/was a principal investigator in four projects in this field. She also collaborates with the European industry.
