Laura Cainé holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, a Master's degree in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), a Master's degree in Cell Biology, and a Degree in Biology from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra. Currently, she is a Member of the Board of Directors and Director of the Center Delegation of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, I.P. (INMLCF). She is also a Member of the Medical–Legal Council. From 2003 to 2020, she worked as a Senior Specialist in Forensic Medicine. She holds a teaching position as an Invited Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health and Forensic Sciences and Medical Education at FMUP, as well as at the Law Schools of the Universities of Minho, where she is responsible for various curricular units. She has published several articles in indexed international journals and contributed chapters to specialized books. She has delivered numerous invited lectures and presented research at scientific conferences in the field of Forensic Sciences. She supervises several undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in Forensic Sciences and has served as a jury member in various academic examinations at the master's and doctoral levels. Additionally, she is a researcher at the Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry, Chemistry, and Technology.
Agostinho Almeida (1962) is a professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, Portugal, in the fields of analytical/bioanalytical chemistry and instrumental methods of analysis. He graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences (1986), with a specialization in Clinical Analysis, and received a PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry (2000) from the University of Porto. He is a researcher at LAQV/REQUIMTE, the Portuguese Research Center for Sustainable Chemistry, where he leads a trace element analysis unit. His main research interests are trace elements in health and disease, with a focus on the development and validation of analytical procedures in atomic absorption and plasma-mass spectrometry, microwave-assisted sample preparation, and environmental, pharmaceutical, clinical/toxicological and forensic applications. In the last 10 years, he has been a researcher in 15 projects with competitive funding and supervised/co-supervised of dozens of students, many from foreign countries. He has authored over 140 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and presented over 90 lectures and oral communications. He is a member of the Editorial Board of two journals. In brief, as a professor and researcher he has focused on the analysis of trace elements, mainly in the clinical-toxicological, food and environmental areas. He is also head of a specially dedicated research laboratory unit.
