Jaime C. Fonseca is an Associate Professor (with tenure) at the Department of Industrial Electronics, University of Minho. He is the coordinator of the Industrial Electronics line at the Algoritmi research centre, Member of the scientific committee of the doctoral program in Industrial Engineering Electronics and Computers, and CEO of iSurgical3D company Spin Off of Minho University.
He has participated in 45 research projects (21 is PI), mostly in close cooperation with the industry. His research focus is on automation, robotics, and medical devices. He has authored or co-authored 140 indexed (e.g. ISI, Scopus) publications in international peer-reviewed journals (e.g., IEEE transactions on bio-medical engineering, IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, European Heart Journal Cardiovascular Imaging, Machine Vision and Applications) and conferences (e.g., SPIE, IECON). He has a total of 1151 Scopus citations (h index 18) and 3817 Google Scholar citations (h index of 32, i10 index of 63).
He has co-authored three Portuguese patents and two international patents. He has won the following vawards: (1) SpinUM – Concurso Ideias e Negócio”, with “3DPectus System”, sponsored by Tecminho, SpinPark, Cotec and InovCapital (2009); (2) START – Prémio Nacional de Empreendedorismo 2009”, iSurgical3D, sponsored by BPI, Optimus Negócios e Universidade Nova de Lisboa. With the award START founded the iSurgical3D company a Spin-Off at Minho University.
