Dr. Nu Rhahida Arini is an Associate Professor and researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Energy at Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya (PENS), Indonesia. Her expertise lies in fluid dynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and renewable energy systems, with a strong emphasis on offshore renewable technologies and turbine optimization. Dr. Arini earned her Ph.D. from the University of Southampton, UK, focusing on blade modifications for vertical-axis tidal turbines, supported by DSTL UK and the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Research. She also holds an M.Eng. and B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), with part of her master’s study conducted in collaboration with TU Delft, Netherlands. Her postdoctoral research at the University of Exeter, UK, involved optimizing mooring systems for wave energy converters under the EU Horizon 2020 OPERA project. Dr. Arini has led and participated in numerous collaborative projects with industry partners, including British Petroleum and marine energy companies, and has secured various research grants focused on wind and tidal energy solutions. In recognition of her contributions, she was named a Finalist in the 2023 ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women.
Gilang Muhammad is a Thermodynamic Engineer at PT Guntner Indonesia, specializing in product development. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Power Plant Engineering (Energy Conversion) and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Energy Conversion) from Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya. With expertise in energy conversion and thermodynamics, Gilang focuses on designing and improving heat exchange systems for industrial applications to optimize energy efficiency and performance. Gilang is dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions and plays an essential role in product innovation at PT Guntner Indonesia, where he applies his knowledge to develop cutting-edge technologies in thermal management.
Eko Charnius Ilman, Ir., S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM, received his Bachelor’s degree in Ocean Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in 2010 and his Master’s degree in Ocean Engineering from ITB in 2012, focusing on subsea pipeline engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in Maritime Engineering from the University of Southampton, UK, in 2021, specializing in multiphysics modeling for corroded ship structures and ultimate strength. He is an Assistant Professor at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), where he is engaged in teaching, research, and mentoring students in offshore and maritime structures. His research focuses on structural integrity, ultimate strength, marine and offshore corrosion, multi-physics simulation, structure decommissioning, and subsea pipeline engineering. He has contributed to numerous research projects and publications addressing challenges in offshore structural performance, corrosion mitigation, and pipeline integrity assessment.
Dr. Ilman has published several journal articles and conference papers. His work applies numerical modeling and multi-physics simulations to enhance the safety and durability of offshore structures and subsea pipelines.
Beyond academia, he collaborates with industry partners on projects related to offshore structural integrity, riser, cable, and pipeline design, as well as decommissioning strategies. He is a Professional Engineer (IPM) and an active member of the offshore engineering community.
Dr. Mohamed Moshrefi-Torbati is an Associate Professor in the Mechatronics Research Group at the University of Southampton.
He completed his PhD in 1995 in the Signal Processing and Control Research Group at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research. Since then, Dr. Torbati has been actively involved in research, teaching, and entrepreneurship. His research interests primarily focus on energy harvesting and storage, including efficient DC power generation from reciprocating mechanical motion, wave energy converters, and energy harvesting from electrospun fibers. Dr. Torbati has also contributed to the design of magnetic gears for energy harvesting. He currently serves as the Deputy Head of the School International.
Deni Saputra is currently a third-year student in Power Plant Engineering at Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya (PENS). He is an awardee of the Indonesia International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) 2024 at National Formosa University, Taiwan, and a participant in the Specialists’ Community Action and Leadership Exchange (SCALE) 2023 in Singapore. He has actively contributed to research and innovation in renewable energy and control systems, gaining hands-on experience as Vice Chair of the SCADA Laboratory and Club Coordinator for OpenFOAM Study Club. His work experience includes serving as a Technical Staff at PT. Sampari Global Energi, conducting field surveys on marine and wind energy resources, and working as an Installation Staff for a Floating Vertical Axis Tidal Turbine (VATT) system in Pagerungan Kecil Island. His research interests focus on computational fluid dynamics, turbine design, control systems, and renewable energy solutions. He has also led projects on kinetic flooring for energy harvesting and Archimedes Spiral Hydrokinetic Turbine analysis. Deni has been recognized as a Top 8 Finalist in the PLN Innovation and Competition in Electricity (ICE) 2023 and a Finalist in the Pertamina Foundation PFSains 2024. He is an active member of various research and engineering communities and continues to pursue innovations in sustainable energy technology.
