Xianlin Han received his BS (Chemistry, 1982) and MS (Chemical Thermodynamics, 1985) from the Zhejiang University, China. He then received his MA (Physical Chemistry, 1987) and Ph.D. (Biophysical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 1990) from the Washington University, USA. Xianlin Han is currently a professor in the Department of Medicine, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Barshop Institute. He also holds the Methodist Hospital Foundation Chair in Aging Studies and Research at UT Health San Antonio. Xianlin Han is an internationally-renowned investigator in the fields of lipidomics, lipid metabolism, and lipid biochemistry. His research expertise spans the area of neuroscience, diabetes, and metabolic biochemistry. Currently, his laboratory group focuses on Alzheimer’s disease, diabetic neuropathy, and mitochondrial dysfunction in the diabetic hearts. In addition, Xianlin Han received the Memory Ride Prize (2003), and the University of Texas System STARs Award (2018).
Ling-Xiao Deng is an Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He earned his BMED and Master’s degree from Fujian Medical University and subsequently worked as an orthopedic surgeon in China for eight years. During this time, his experience with numerous patients struggling to recover from spinal cord injuries despite successful surgeries sparked his interest in understanding the complex pathophysiological mechanisms underlying these injuries. This realization motivated him to pursue a career in medical research.Dr. Deng completed his Ph.D. in the Department of Anatomy, Cell Biology, and Physiology, followed by postdoctoral training in the Department of Neurological Surgery, both at the Indiana University School of Medicine. His research focuses on developing combinatorial strategies to promote functional recovery after spinal cord injury and investigating immune modulation mechanisms to reduce secondary injury following SCI.
