Prof. Mohamed AbouZeid is a professor of construction at The American University in Cairo
(AUC). He received his Ph.D. (with honors) from the University of Kansas in 1994.
He joined AUC in 1997 as a full-time faculty member. He has held several
positions at AUC, including chair of the University Senate, chair of the
Academic Integrity Council, and chair of the Department of Construction and
Architectural Engineering. He is currently the elected chairman of the board of
the International Center for Academic Integrity at Clemson University. He
served as the chair of the Department of Construction and Architectural
Engineering from 2008 to February 2015. He has also served as a board member
of Egypt’s First National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation in
Education (NAQAAE). His research interests include mechanical properties and
durability of construction materials; the use of industrial by-products such as
silica fume, fly ash, and slag in construction; microanalysis of materials
using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray, and image analysis; corrosion of
structural metals and deterioration of materials.
