Dr. Giovanni Formato is the head of the Apiculture Laboratory at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Lazio e della Toscana “M. Aleandri” (IZSLT) and the FAO Reference Centre on "Animal Health and Food Security Discipline Apiculture, Health, and Biosecurity" and WOAH Collaborating Centre "Good Beekeeping Management Practices and Biosecurity Measures in the Apiculture Sector." He completed his DVM, specializing in "Food Inspection of Animal Products," and has been awarded several honors. Dr. Giovanni Formato recently led national and international projects, including the Horizon EU B-THENET project focusing on sustainable beekeeping practices. He has published more than 90 papers in various journals and serves in a role for several societies such as SVETAP (Società Scientifica Veterinaria per l'Apicoltura). His research interests include bee disease, management, and biosecurity.
