Prof. Raphael Gorodetsky
is the head of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Radiobiology at the Sharett
Institute of Oncology, Hadassah - Hebrew University Medical Center, Jerusalem since1989
(affiliated to the Hebrew University Medical School ). He received
his M.Sc. and PH.D from the Hebrew University in 1985 and had his Postdoc at
UCLA Medical Center (1985-1988). Previously he has employed at Hadassah Medical
Center as a researcher with special interest in trace elements physiology,
radiobiology an tissue regeneration concentration of various innovative aspects
of new fibrin products for cell binding. A major direction of Gorodetsky’s
research focused on the invention of fibrin based scaffolds and peptides used
for tissue regeneration and cell-based therapies for various applications.
Gorodetsky co-founded The
start-up company Hapto Biotech at Hadassah Hospital in 2000, where he served as
the chief scientist. (Hapto LTD, later merged with Ortec in NYC to form
Forticel International). The technologies of Hapto were based on the design of
novel fibrin-based matrices for tissue regeneration, specifically of bone and
cartilage.
In the last decade, Gorodetsky
was mainly involved in the development of placental mesenchymal stromal cell therapies
for regenerative medicine. Of note are his findings on the the mitigation of severe
systemic radiation effects with those cells, which later were translated to clinical
studies of by Pluristem Therapeutics for clinical application.
