A major direction of Gorodetsky’s research focused on the invention of fibrin based scaffolds and peptides used for tissue regeneration and cell-based therapies for various applications. Gorodetsky co-founded The start-up company Hapto Biotech at Hadassah Hospital in 2000, where he served as the chief scientist. (Hapto LTD, later merged with Ortec in NYC to form Forticel International). The technologies of Hapto were based on the design of novel fibrin-based matrices for tissue regeneration, specifically of bone and cartilage. In the last decade, Gorodetsky was mainly involved in the development of placental mesenchymal stromal cell therapies for regenerative medicine. Of note are his findings on the the mitigation of severe systemic radiation effects with those cells, which later were translated to clinical studies of by Pluristem Therapeutics for clinical application.
