Ronald CW Ma is a professor at the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and an honorary consultant physician at the Prince of Wales Hospital. He is a former president of Diabetes Hongkong (2010–2012), a charitable voluntary organization dedicated to the promotion of diabetes social awareness. Dr. Ma completed his medical training at the University of Cambridge, UK, and trained in internal medicine in London. He subsequently moved to Hong Kong, where he completed his endocrinology fellowship training. Following this training, he conducted research on diabetic complications at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA, under the mentorship of Dr. George King. His research interests include the epidemiology and genetics of diabetes and its complications and gestational diabetes.
Dr. Elaine Chow is the Associate Professor. She received her PhD on cardiovascular effects of hypoglycemia in type 2 diabetes at the University of Sheffield in 2015. She has been awarded the Hong Kong College of Physicians Richard Yu Lecture 2022 and the Women’s Interprofessional Network of the American Diabetes Association abstract award in 2022. She has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles with over 30 as first/corresponding author, including articles in Diabetes Care, Diabetes and Nature Reviews Endocrinology, Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology and EClinical Medicine, and serves as an Associate Editor for Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice and editorial board member for several journals.
Elaine Chow received medical training in the UK and completed her PhD on cardiovascular effects of hypoglycemia in type 2 diabetes at the University of Sheffield in 2015. She has since joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she helped set up glucose clamp and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor evaluation studies at the Phase 1 Clinical Trial Centre. She has secured multiple competitive and commissioned grants on early-phase drug/device evaluation via HMRF, RGC, ITF, and industry. She currently leads a number of investigator-initiated clinical studies in prediabetes, diabetes, and advanced chronic kidney disease. She has been principal investigator or co-investigator for over 100 Phase 1 to 4 studies relating to cardiometabolic drugs. She has also received several awards, including the Hong Kong College of Physicians Richard Yu Lecture in 2022 and the Women’s Interprofessional Network of the American Diabetes Association abstract award in 2022. In addition to teaching and research, she is an associate editor for Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice and an editorial board member for several journals. She serves advisory roles for the Hospital Authority (HA) on drug selection and utilization.
