Yao Yao received her PhD degree in Genetics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2008. She then worked as a Postdoc and Research Associate faculty at the University of Pennsylvania (2009–2017). In 2017, she moved to the University of Georgia and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2019. Her research topics mainly include extracellular-based therapies and drug delivery, molecular mechanisms underlying neuromuscular diseases, gene regulation during development, and disease.
