Author Biographies

Dr. Felix Raspall is an Architect and Design Technologist. He is an Associate Professor and Director of Research at the School of Design at Adolfo Ibáñez University in Chile. He co-directs AirLab, a studio investigating the relationships between design, materiality, and technology. He holds a Doctor of Design (2015) from Harvard University. He spent months at Zhejiang University (Hangzhou, China) as a Visiting Professor and worked as an Assistant Professor at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) from 2015 to 2019.
Dr. Sergio Araya joined Adolfo Ibáñez University in Chile in 2010 and has been Dean of the School of Design since January 2015 and is the Co-director of the Material Intelligence Research Group. He is also a Visiting Scientist at Ortiz Lab, MIT Department of Materials Science and Engineering. He holds a PhD in Architecture and a Master of Science in Architecture from MIT. His research focuses on advanced design technologies, specifically developing digital and physical design tools and methods.

Dr. Paola Benavides is an Assistant Professor at the Adolfo Ibáñez University of Chile. She holds a PhD in Materials Engineering and Science from the University of Chile. She has worked for over 15 years, teaching undergraduate courses in materials, fluid mechanics, prototyping, design, and mechanisms and graduate courses in energy efficiency, sustainable construction, and material intelligence. Her line of research includes the study and development of sustainable materials and digital manufacturing.
