Author Biographies

Dr Yvonne A.B. Buunk-Werkhoven is a social psychologist (2005, University of Groningen) and an oral hygienist (1989). She obtained her PhD in Behavioural and Social Sciences at the University of Groningen (2010). She is an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine / Kauno Kolegija (HEI), Lithuania and vice-president of the editorial board of De Psycholoog (NIP). She has extensive experience with research and practice at the interface of social (health) psychology and oral healthcare. Internationally, she is a scientific consultant, and her research interests include promotion, prevention, education and behavioural change (interventions) in public healthcare. Many of her scientific and professional publications have appeared in scientific journals and magazines. She obtained a PhD grant (Mobility Fund 2005), the VMTI 2006 stipend and an Israeli Dental Public Health Poster award in 2017. She was nominated for the KNAW - De La Court Prize 2020. She worked as a lecturer in Behavioural Science for the training of general practitioners and general military doctors at Amsterdam UMC (2021–2023). She was Visiting Professor at the Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi (Universitas Brawijaya) in Malang, Indonesia, Also, she was a board member of the Netherlands Dental Society (NTG), an executive member of the Chief Dental Officer/ Dental Public Health Section (FDI) and a board member (focus on Research and Education) of the Dutch Dental Hygienists’ Association, including the EDHF and IFDH.
Dr Dick P. H. Barelds is an associate professor at the University of Groningen, Department of Psychology. He has worked in clinical psychology, psychometrics and personality psychology. Currently, he holds a position at the group for Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology at the University of Groningen. He was a board member for 12 years for both the European Association of Personality Psychology and the World Association for Personality Psychology.

Professor Dr A.P. Buunk is a social psychologist, who obtained his PhD at Utrecht University (1980) in The Netherlands. He was a visiting professor at the University of California and is currently a visiting professor at the Catholic University of Uruguay. From 1975 until1990, he was a lecturer in social and organizational psychology at the Catholic University in Nijmegen. From 1990 until 2012, he was Chair and Professor in Social Psychology at the University of Groningen. From 2013 until 2017, he was a professor of social and organizational Psychology at the University of Curaçao. In 2004, Prof. Buunk became a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences, and since 2005 he has been an Academy Professor on behalf of this academy. His research focuses on evolutionary and cultural approaches of human behaviour and on many applied issues, including professional burnout, AIDS prevention, depression, marital satisfaction, successful ageing and coping with cancer. He has collaborated with many scholars in South America and is on the editorial board of several journals. Prof. Buunk has supervised 60 dissertations and has over 600 scientific publications in a variety of journals and books. In 1983 he was awarded a Fulbright Senior Research Scholarship, in 2009 he received the Royal distinction of Knight in the Order of the Lion of The Netherlands, and in 2011 he received the distinction of Professor Honorario from the Universidad Católica de Santa Maria in Arequipa, Peru.
