William T. Stringfellow, Ph.D., is an Emeritus Professor at the School of Engineering & Computer Science at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, and a Research Engineer in the Geochemistry Department, Earth & Environmental Sciences Area at Berkeley National Laboratory. He received his B. S. in Environmental Health from the University of Georgia (Athens, GA) and a Master’s Degree in Microbial Physiology and Aquatic Ecology from Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA). He received his Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and trained as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of California at Berkeley. Prof. Stringfellow is the author of over 50 journal publications and numerous government reports. He has authored book chapters and made hundreds of presentations on the subjects of industrial waste management and water treatment and reuse. He provides services to government and non-profit commissions and panels. Prof. Stringfellow’s current research involves evaluating technology important to the critical material supply chains and investigating the environmental impacts of resource extraction. Ongoing projects include the extraction of lithium and other critical minerals from industrial by-products and wastes.
Mary Kay Camarillo is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of the Pacific in Stockton and holds a Visiting Faculty position at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Dr. Camarillo’s research focuses on the study of environmental issues in California. She has worked on projects that address biomass energy, oil and gas production, geothermal energy, environmental monitoring, and wastewater treatment. Notably, she was a collaborator on a project initiated by Senate Bill No. 4 to study hydraulic fracturing and other forms of well stimulation in California. Dr. Camarillo earned a PhD and MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UC Davis and a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington. In between earning her undergraduate and graduate degrees, Dr. Camarillo worked in industry for seven years in the Portland, Oregon, area. During that time, she worked on planning, design, and construction services for water and wastewater infrastructure, mostly treatment plants. She is a licensed Professional Engineer (Civil) in California.
