Author Biographies

Ana Ventura holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1980), a master's degree in Biological Sciences (Biophysics) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1984), and a PhD in Biological Sciences (Biophysics) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1989). She completed postdoctoral research in Dr. David Sibley’s lab at the NIH between 1994 and 1996 and is currently the head of the Neurochemistry Laboratory at the Fluminense Federal University (UFF) and a full professor in the Department of Neurobiology at UFF. She was the head of the Department of Neurobiology at UFF, Vice-Director of the Institute of Biology at UFF, and coordinator of the Neuroscience graduate program at UFF from 2010 to 2014. She served as the General Secretary of the Brazilian Purine Club from 2013 to 2018 and is currently a counselor for the club. She has experience in the fields of cellular biophysics and neurochemistry, with a focus on retinal development, neurotransmitter systems, signaling pathways, nucleotide receptors, and cell proliferation and death.
