Dr Keith Joiner, CSC, was an Air Force aeronautical engineer, project manager, and teacher for 30 years before joining the University of New South Wales to teach and research testing and evaluation. As Defence’s Director-General of Test and Evaluation for four years, he was awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross and for producing drawdown plans for the Multi-National Force in Iraq, as well as awarded a U.S. Meritorious Service Medal. He is a Certified Practising Engineer, a Certified Practising Project Director, and has over 100 published research articles on assuring engineered systems. His research is diverse; it covers, for example, 1) assuring cyberworthiness, AI-enabled systems, and robotic autonomous systems, 2) using high-throughput test designs and complex systems governance, and 3) developing air–sea hybrid vehicles and electrified aircraft.
Ugur Turhan is an accomplished academic and Senior Lecturer in aviation at the University of New South Wales Canberra, specializing in Air Traffic Management, Airport Operations, Aviation Safety, and Human Factors in Aviation, and has over two decades of experience in both academic and professional settings. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Aviation Management from Anadolu University. He has also served as an Assistant Professor at Eskisehir Technical University and Anadolu University. His international experience includes a visiting professorship at Embry Riddle Aviation Academy. His research focuses on aviation safety, air traffic management, airport operations, and human factors. He has authored numerous articles in prestigious journals and contributed to several international projects funded by the European Commission. His notable publications include studies on aircraft maintenance, air traffic control training, human factors in aviation, and aviation safety–security.
Graham Wild is currently a Senior Lecturer of Aviation Science and Technology in the School of Science at the University of New South Wales Canberra (at the Australian Defence Force Academy) and has been with UNSW ADFA since February 2020, initially in the School of Engineering and Information Technology. Before that, he was a Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering and Aviation at the School of Engineering, RMIT University, commencing there in 2012. From 2011 to 2012, he was a Lecturer in Aviation Systems at ECU. In 2010, he was a post-doctoral researcher with the Photonics Research Laboratory at ECU, continuing the work from his Ph.D. at ECU on Optical Fibre-Based Structural Health Monitoring Systems of Aerospace Vehicles. Before commencing higher education, he studied to be a commercial pilot, completing his CPL theory. He has been a researcher with the CSIRO Electric Machines Group, the CSIRO Intelligent Systems Group, the US Naval Research Laboratory, and most recently with the Laboratory for Active Materials and Smart Structures at the University of South Carolina.
