Prof. Dr. Viviane Pierrard is head of the solar
wind division as the senior research leader at the Royal Belgian Institute for Space
Aeronomy (since 1993), and invited Professor of Physics at the Université Catholique
de Louvain (UCLouvain) since 2004. She completed her PhD in Sciences and Physics in February 1997 at UCLouvain and has been awarded a Zeldovich Medal (COSPAR 2006), two awards from the Belgian Academy of Science (2000, 2002), and an award from the Belgian Physical Society (2000), among others. She has published more than 200 papers in various peer-reviewed journals and serves as vice-chair in the URSI International Union of Radio Science in Belgium. She was also implicated as chair in different national committees like SRBA Royal Belgian Society of Astronomy, BPS Belgian Physical Society, or BNCGG National committee of Geodesy and Geophysics. She is the Editor of the Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics. She is the work leader for the projects EURAMET: BIOSPHERE and H2020 PITHIA-NRF and at the Solar-Terrestrial Center of Excellence. Her teaching disciplines include the physics of upper atmosphere and space, and her interests include solar wind and its interactions with the Earth's magnetosphere, especially the radiation
belts, energetic particles, the plasmasphere, the
ionosphere, cosmic rays, and more generally space weather.
