Dr. Jose Trevino is currently an associate professor and Chair of the Division of Surgical Oncology and Virginia Commonwealth Health System. His research focus is dedicated to the better understanding of pancreatic cancer amongst a diverse patient population, investigations of key questions hindering better clinical outcomes, and the development of therapeutic targets. He has a significant basic science/translational research background, with expertise in xenograft tumor models of pancreatic cancer. His role as a pancreatologist allows for a better understanding of clinical problems in order to develop a translational question from bedside to bench and vice versa. His research group is at the forefront of therapeutic discovery for pancreatic cancer-induced cachexia and pancreatic health disparities. With access to pancreatic cancer patients and surgically resected tissues and with the subsequent development of patient-specific viable models, his group focuses on personalized therapeutic approaches emphasizing not only the important role of the tumor microenvironment but also of the human system as a whole.

Dr. Jason Brant received his doctorate degree from the University of Florida in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology under the mentorship of Dr. Thomas P. Yang. In his current position as an assistant professor at the Department of Biostatistics and at the UF Health Cancer Center, Dr. Brant works to provide computational and bioinformatics support for cancer center members and is developing new technologies for assaying and analyzing chromatin structures at the single-molecule level. The research interests of Dr. Brant are focused on the roles of DNA methylation and chromatin structure in regulating gene expression and how perturbations in the epigenome can result in disease onset and progression.
