Prof. Filippo Minutolo is a Full Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa (Italy). In 1996, he completed his PhD studies in Chemistry at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa. From 1997 to 1999, he worked as a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He then began his tenure-track position at the University of Pisa, where he served as a researcher (2001–2006) and an associate professor (2006–2016), before being appointed to his current role. His research interests include the development of new small organic molecules and organometallic complexes as potential therapeutic and diagnostic agents, with a particular focus on targeting the peculiar metabolism of cancer cells.
Dr. Giulia Bononi is a Researcher in Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa (IT). She graduated with honours in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology in 2017. In November 2017, she won a one-year research scholarship at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa. In November 2018, she started her PhD at the Graduate School in Science of Drugs and Bioactive Substances, University of Pisa, under the supervision of Prof. F. Minutolo and Prof. C. Granchi. On June 2022, she defended her PhD thesis, and she obtained the maximum grade in the evaluation process by an international
committee of experts. From February 2020 to July 2020, she was a visiting PhD student at the Cancer Center of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (NL) in the research group of Prof. E. Giovannetti, working on the pharmacological evaluation of MAGL inhibitors on pancreatic cancer cells. From March 2022 to May 2023, she held a position as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Dept. of
Pharmacy, University of Pisa, in the Molecular Modeling and Virtual Screening Laboratory, headed by Prof. T. Tuccinardi. On May 2023, she won a Junior Researcher (RTDA) position at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa. Her research interests primarily focus on the development of therapeutic and diagnostic agents targeting tumour metabolism.
Prof. Carlotta Granchi received her PhD in Medicinal Chemistry in 2011 at the University of Pisa (IT). In 2009, she spent a period in the group of Prof. P.J. Hergenrother in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA). After the PhD, she was a postdoctoral research fellow, and in 2016, she joined the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Pisa as an Assistant Professor, becoming an Associate Professor in 2019. Her research interests are focused on the synthesis and biological evaluation of small molecules able to interfere with the altered metabolism of tumours.
Prof Tiziano Tuccinardi is Full Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa. He has published more than 200 papers and has received over 7,000 citations. His research interests include drug and lead discovery, with a focus on computer-assisted approaches and medicinal chemistry, including the synthesis of small molecules and virtual and biomolecular screening.
