Dr. Iryna Zablotska, a medical doctor and PhD graduate from Johns Hopkins University in the US, is an Associate Professor and Co-director of the Postgraduate Program in Sexual and Reproductive Health in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. She is also a member of the Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases. Iryna is an Epidemiologist highly regarded for her extensive skills in the conception, design, execution and analysis of complex longitudinal studies of HIV risk and prevention, including treatment as prevention and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Her research interests are in sexual and reproductive health of different population groups, including young people, women and marginalised populations. In the area of reproductive health, her work has focused on adolescent girls and young women, sexual health education and prevention of sexually transmitted infections. In the area of sexual health, she has developed a significant body of research on HIV and STI prevention, including biomedical and behavioural methods, behavioural research and surveillance, social research on the aspect of HIV/STI transmission and prevention. She is one of the leading Australian researchers on PrEP and member of the expert writing panel responsible for writing and updating the national PrEP prescribing guidelines.
