Author Biographies

Dr. Melba Sheila D'Souza is Associate Professor at the School of Nursing, Thompson Rivers University, Canada. She completed her PhD studies in Medical Sociology at Goa University and has been awarded the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council grant and Breast Cancer Society of Canada grant. She recently led the Cancer Navigation and Reported Outcomes Project. She has published a number of high-impact papers focused on implementation science in interdisciplinary health care journals, and she serves significant roles in the Canadian Association of Nursing Oncology, Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology, and International Psycho-Oncology Society. Her teaching disciplines include nursing practice, nursing education, health promotion and healing challenges, graduate research, knowledge translation, and independent studies. Her interests include psychosocial oncology, implementation science, senior care, immigrant health, rural communities, and knowledge translation.
Dr. Juanita-Dawne Bacsu is a Canada Research Chair Tier II in Nursing and Population Health, Founding Director of the Population Health and Aging Rural Research Centre, and an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at Thompson Rivers University. Drawing on a social-determinants-of-health approach, Dr. Bacsu’s Canada Research Chair focuses on supporting the health equity of older adults living with dementia in rural communities. Her research interests include rural health, gerontology, stigma, dementia, cognitive health promotion, infodemiology, and health policy.
Arsh Sharma is a student in the Bachelor of Science program at the University of British Columbia. Arsh is a research assistant for the Cancer Navigation and Reported Outcomes research grant. His research interests include interdisciplinary approaches, psychosocial oncology, microbiology, and disease management.
Ashwin Nairy is a student in the Bachelor of Science program at the University of British Columbia. He serves as a research assistant at the Population Health and Aging Rural Research Centre. He is working with the support of a Cancer Navigation and Reported Outcomes research grant. His research interests include statistics in health, informatics, biochemistry, and disease management.
