Professor Svetlana Simova obtained her M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" in 1976 and her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Technical University Leuna-Merseburg (now Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg) in 1982. Her academic distinctions include a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Organic Chemistry from the Institute of Organic Chemistry with the Centre of Phytochemistry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IOCCP-BAS) in 2001. Currently, she serves as a professor at the Bulgarian NMR Centre, BAS, and also contributes her expertise as an instructor of NMR Spectroscopy at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at Sofia University. From 2005 to 2019, she served as the Head of the Bulgarian NMR Centre and from 2017 to 2021 as the Director of IOCCP-BAS. She currently maintains membership on the editorial boards of ACS Omega, BMC Chemistry, and Arkivoc as well as in the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria, the Union of Chemists at the Federation of Scientific and Technical Unions in Bulgaria, Bulgarian Phytochemical Society, the GDCh, Division Magnetic Resonance and the American Chemical Society. Her primary research domain encompasses the application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques for the analysis of mixtures and metabolomics, the elucidation of structure and stereochemistry of compounds of natural and synthetic origin, the analysis of polysaccharides and lipids, and molecular recognition phenomena with cyclodextrines.
