Kaan Yetilmezsoy is a professor of Environmental Engineering Department, Faculty of Civil Engineering, at Yildiz Technical University, Davutpasa Campus, Esenler, Istanbul, Turkey. He received his B.Sc. degrees in both Environmental Engineering (1st rank graduate) and Civil Engineering (graduated as honor student) from Yildiz Technical University (2nd rank graduate), Istanbul/Turkey, in 2002 and 2004, respectively. He also obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Engineering from Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul/Turkey, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. His research interests are mathematical modeling, linear/non-linear regression analysis-based modeling, artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems, soft-computing techniques, experimental design, multi-objective optimization techniques, MATLAB®-based programming, scientific computation for engineers, design of water and wastewater treatment plants, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, and post-treatment technologies. He has authored more than 200 publications with over 8000 citations according to Google Scholar. He has also received “Outstanding Young Scientist Award (TÜBA-GEBİP)” of the year 2018 from Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) for his academic achievements. Fatih Ilhan is an associate professor of Environmental Engineering Department, Faculty of Civil Engineering, at Yildiz Technical University, Davutpasa Campus, Esenler, Istanbul, Turkey. He received his B.Sc.degree from 19 Mayis University from 2000–2004 and secured the third rank graduation in the department. He completed M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees between 2004 and 2013 at Yildiz Technical University. His research areas are treatment methods such as electrochemical treatment (electrocoagulation, electroflotation, electrooxidation, electrodialysis etc.) and advanced oxidation processes (Fenton’s oxidation, ozonization, UV, microwave, peroxide, persulfate and their combinations), their modeling, and optimization techniques. He has authored more than 70 publications having been cited over 1500 according to Google Scholar. He currently continues his academic studies with Prof. Dr. Kaan Yetilmezsoy and his group. Emel Kıyan is an associate professor of Environmental Engineering Department, Faculty of Civil Engineering, at Yildiz Technical University, Davutpasa Campus, Esenler, Istanbul, Turkey. She received her B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Engineering from Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2002, 2004, and 2010, respectively. Her research areas are environmental modeling and optimization, post treatment technologies, genotoxicity, and environmental microbiology. She has recently published many articles in the field of modeling, such as development of a new practical formula for pipe-sizing problems within the framework of a hybrid computational strategy, approximation of the discharge coefficient of differential pressure flowmeters using different soft-computing strategies, and removal of anthraquinone dye via struvite: equilibria, kinetics, thermodynamics, fuzzy logic modeling, with Prof. Dr. Kaan Yetilmezsoy and his group.
