Eduarda Freitas graduated in Nursing in 2022 from the Nursing School of Coimbra. She has been developing her professional career for two years as a pediatric team-leader nurse working at an inpatient pediatric ward in Dona Estefânia Hospital, Local Health Unit of St. José, Lisbon, Portugal, where nursing care for children with sickle cell anemia and their families is an everyday challenge. Lifelong education and clinical research on pediatrics, especially regarding pain management and pediatric palliative care, are two of her most valued pathways to deliver excellent quality care.
David de Sousa Loura graduated in Nursing from the Lisbon School of Nursing in 2020 and received a post-graduate qualification in Child Health and Pediatric Nursing from the Catholic University of Portugal in 2024. He is currently studying for a PhD in Nursing at the University of Lisbon. He has been working as a pediatric team-leader nurse at an inpatient pediatric ward in Dona Estefânia Hospital, Local Health Unit of St. José, Lisbon, Portugal, where nursing care for children with sickle cell anemia and their families is an everyday challenge. His research interests extend to informal caregivers, pediatric nursing, pediatric palliative care, health management, and leadership.
Mariana Inês graduated in Nursing from the Higher School of Health Ribeiro Sanches (ERISA) in 2016 and has been working as a senior pediatric team-leader nurse at an inpatient pediatric ward in Dona Estefânia Hospital, Local Health Unit of St. José, Lisbon, Portugal, where nursing care for children with sickle cell anemia and their families is an everyday challenge.
Carla Martins graduated in Nursing from the Dr. Ângelo da Fonseca School of Nursing in 2003 and has worked in Dona Estefânia Hospital, Local Health Unit of St. José, Lisbon, Portugal, since the beginning of her career in 2005, with an unique journey working in pediatric intensive care and caring for pediatric burn victims. She has been working at an inpatient pediatric ward in this Hospital for the last seven years, where nursing care for children with sickle cell anemia and their families is an everyday challenge. New challenges arise as Carla embraces a new role in a primary health care unit regarding school health.
Inês Duarte graduated in Nursing in 2000 and received a post-graduate qualification in Child Health Nursing and Pediatrics from the Catholic University of Portugal in 2010 and in Management and Administration in Health. She has been working as an experienced pediatric nurse in Dona Estefânia Hospital, Local Health Unit of St. José, Lisbon, Portugal, for the last 25 years. Currently, Inês Duarte holds the position of Nursing Manager at an inpatient pediatric ward which is part of this hospital, participating in several satellite activities such as clinical trials, quality standard groups, and auditing clinical performance.
