Prof. Dr. Yannis Mantas Paulus is the Jonas Friedenwald Professor and Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Biomedical Engineering and a surgical retina specialist who sees patients at the Johns Hopkins University Wilmer Eye Institute. After earning his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and physics from Harvard University and his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine with a concentration in Bioengineering, Dr. Paulus completed an internship at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, a residency in ophthalmology at the Stanford University School of Medicine Byers Eye Institute, and a surgical and medical retina fellowship at Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University. His clinical practice focuses on the surgical and medical management of the retina and vitreous, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, macular pucker, retinal vein occlusions, retinal artery occlusions, retinal detachments, ocular trauma,and macular and submacular surgery. Dr. Paulus’ research interests include the development of novel retinal imaging systems and therapeutic techniques and technologies, including photoacoustic imaging, molecular imaging, minimally traumatic retinal laser therapies, and surgical techniques.
