Alireza Nouri is a professor at the School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, at the University of Alberta. He earned his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Tehran Polytechnic, his M.Sc. in Geotechnical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, and his Ph.D. in Sand Control from Dalhousie University. Before joining academia, he worked as a geotechnical engineer at Ghods-Niroo Consulting Engineers. Dr. Nouri’s research integrates petroleum geomechanics with innovative clean energy solutions. His work spans hydraulic fracturing, sand production, caprock integrity, and advanced oil recovery methods. He also leads the development of sustainable technologies, including CP-SAGD+, a process for recovering heat from retired SAGD reservoirs to generate zero-emission electricity and steam-less bitumen, and novel air purification systems for enhanced indoor air quality.
