Jeffrey Binder boasts a distinguished career spanning over 30 years in applied energy technology, marked by his contributions as both an engineering and scientific expert and a high-impact leader. His expertise encompasses nuclear reactor technology, renewable energy, advanced and critical materials, and manufacturing technology. Dr. Binder has held several prominent leadership positions, including serving as the Associate Laboratory Director for Applied Energy at Oak Ridge and Argonne National Laboratories, as well as the Founding Director of the University of Illinois Applied Research Institute. He has extensive international experience in advancing nuclear and renewable energy technologies, leading initiatives in nuclear reactor safety, fuel cycle innovation, radioisotope production, advanced energy systems, critical materials, and manufacturing technology. Notably, Dr. Binder played a pivotal role in addressing nuclear safety and security challenges during critical periods such as the aftermath of the Three Mile Island accident, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Chernobyl disaster, and the Fukushima accident in Japan. He holds a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Dr. Binder is also the author or co-author of over 100 publications, articles, and conference papers, underscoring his significant contributions to the field of applied energy technology.
Adam Cohen is the President and CEO of Associated Universities, Inc. (AUI). Before joining AUI in 2017, Dr. Cohen concluded his tenure at Princeton University. Until May 2017, he served as the Deputy Under Secretary for Science and Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). In this role, he oversaw fundamental science, applied energy research, technology development, and deployment initiatives for 13 of the 17 DOE National Laboratories. Dr. Cohen served for seven years as Deputy Director of Operations at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and 18 years at Argonne National Laboratory where he held positions such as Deputy Associate Director for Energy Sciences and Engineering and Deputy Director/Chief Operations Officer. His experience extended to international collaboration as head of the U.S. delegation to the ITER Council, and he contributed to national advisory roles, including the DOE Laboratory Operations Board and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Oyster Creek Oversight Panel. Earlier in his career, he was a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy and worked at Babcock & Wilcox, producing nuclear fuel for research reactors. He is a Senior Associate with the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Energy and National Security Program. Dr. Cohen has a bachelor's degree in materials engineering from Columbia University, an MBA from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Northwestern University.
Antonio Muller, affiliated with the Associação Brasileira de Energia Nuclear (ABEN), has an accomplished career spanning over 45 years in the energy sector. He has held executive positions for more than 20 years, contributing to the design, engineering, construction, and commissioning of nuclear power plants in Brazil and abroad, with a total installed capacity of 2500 MWe. In addition to his expertise in nuclear energy, he has extensive experience in conventional thermal power plants, hydropower facilities, and the oil and gas industry, including offshore, midstream, and onshore operations. He has served as president of several prominent nuclear associations, like the Latin America Section of the American Nuclear Society and the Brazilian Nuclear Association presidency for ten years. His leadership extended to active participation in the World Nuclear Association and the World Nuclear University. Mr. Muller holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the State University of Rio de Janeiro and has completed professional development programs in the United States at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Drexel University, and Harvard Business School. In 2019, he was a finalist for the Lifetime Achievement Award at the S&P Global Energy Awards in New York. A seasoned speaker, Mr. Muller has delivered over 100 presentations at seminars and conferences across the globe, including in Brazil, Argentina, the United States, China, Korea, England, Russia, Germany, and Spain.
