Giacomo Buoncompagni (PhD) is a tenure-track assistant professor (RTT) in Sociology of Culture and Communication at the University of Macerata where he teaches the Sociology of Consumption and the Sociology of Communication and Digital Media. He is the winner of the 2019 Pareto Prize for Sociology, a member of the international working group ITSTIME (Italian Team for Security, Terroristic Issues & Managing Emergencies, UniCatt) and a lecturer within the Máster de Formación Permanente en Dirección de Comunicación Institucional, Marketing y Production de Eventos at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He has taught and conducted research at the Universities of Bologna, Verona, Rome and Florence. He works on journalism and discrimination, local and digital news, digital media and security, disaster communication and the crisis of expert knowledge. He has recently published "Studiare il giornalismo e le discriminazioni" (Tab edizioni, 2024).
