Luis E. Fuentes-Cobas is a Senior Researcher at the Advanced Materials Research Center (CIMAV, Chihuahua, Mexico). He earned his PhD in physics at the University of Havana (UH, Cuba) and completed a post doc in crystal physics at the Unified Institute for Nuclear Research "Dubna" (Russia). In Cuba, he worked at the Faculty of Physics (UH). He was Head of the UH General Physics Department and Vice President of the National Commission for the Teaching of Physics. In Mexico, at CIMAV, he is focused on teaching and research in the structural analysis of materials by means of synchrotron light and the structure–properties relationship of functional materials. Dr. Fuentes-Cobas is coordinator of the project “Material Properties Open Database” and of the scientific education program “The Materials World Modules-Mexico”. He is the author or co-author of 160 articles and seven books. He has directed 47 graduate theses. His publications include approximately 2,500 citations. He has received acknowledgements for his work in Cuba, Spain, and Russia. Dr. Fuentes-Cobas is the 2012 Chihuahua State Prize winner for Science, Technology, and Innovation. He is a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
Maria Elena Montero-Cabrera is a Senior Researcher at the Advanced Materials Research Center (CIMAV, Chihuahua, Mexico). She earned her B.Sc. in physics at the University of Havana (Cuba) and completed a Ph.D. in nuclear physics at the Unified Institute for Nuclear Research "Dubna" (Russia). In Cuba, she worked at the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology. She was Head of the Department of Nuclear Physics, President of the Cuban Physical Society, and Cuba's representative in the Pugwash Movement for Peace and World Affairs. In Mexico, at CIMAV, she has focused on teaching and research in environmental radiological surveillance and the structural analysis of materials by means of synchrotron light. She is the author or co-author of 98 articles and three books. She has directed 50 graduate theses.
