Raúl Hernández-Martín is a Full Professor of Applied Economics in the Department of Applied Economics and Quantitative Methods at the University of La Laguna. He earned his PhD in Economics from the same institution in 1994 with a thesis on the international specialization of small island states. Throughout his career, he has held various academic leadership positions, including Director of the PhD program in Tourism and the Master's Degree in Tourism Management and Planning. He currently serves as the Director of the Chair in Tourism at the University of La Laguna. His research focuses on the economic impacts of tourism, tourism satellite accounts, measuring tourism sustainability at the local scale, and island tourism development. His work has been published in leading journals such as Tourism Management, Tourism Economics, Current Issues in Tourism, and the Journal of Sustainable Tourism. He has made significant contributions to the field of sustainable tourism measurement and has been a member of the United Nations Tourism Working Group of Experts on Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism for the past seven years.
Noemí Padrón-Fumero is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Economics at the University of La Laguna. She holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Economics and Natural Resource Management from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a PhD in Economics from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Dr. Padrón-Fumero has served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and has been a visiting professor at Resources for the Future (RFF) in Washington, D.C., as well as at the University of Tilburg. She is currently the Director of the PhD Program in Tourism at the University of La Laguna. Her research focuses on environmental policy, climate change economics, and tourism economics. She has published in leading academic journals, including Environmental and Resource Economics and the Journal of Sustainable Tourism, as well as contributing to several books on environmental policy.
Hugo Padrón-Ávila is Tenure Professor of Tourism and Hospitality at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Universidad Europea de Canarias. He obtained his PhD at the Universidad de La Laguna after spending part of his research formation at National Chung Hsing University, Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro and University of Central Florida. His research focuses on analysing the impacts of tourism, tourists’ behaviour, and tourism sustainable development. Some of his studies have been published in prestigious journals such as International Journal of Tourism Research or Tourism Review. He has participated in several conferences and seminars, and he is currently enrolled in the following three research teams: the Chair of Tourism (Universidad de La Laguna), ReinvenTUR (Universidad de La Laguna), and the Research Team on Analysis of the implementation of SDGs in Tourism (Universidad Europea de Canarias).
