Dr. Navin Kaushal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at the School of Health and Human Sciences. He holds a BHSc joint-honors degree in Health Sciences and Psychology from Western University. He then pursued his master’s degree on the East Coast at Memorial University, where he graduated with an MSc (distinction) in Kinesiology (Sport Psychology). He then moved to the West Coast, where he completed his Ph.D. in Behavioral Medicine at the University of Victoria. Dr. Kaushal then pursued his postdoctoral fellowship in Preventive Medicine at the University of Montreal and the Montreal Heart Institute. Dr. Kaushal has published as a primary author in some of the leading journals in his discipline and has a successful record of acquiring external funding. He is the first researcher to scientifically calculate and publish the minimal time, behavioral, and psychological requirements to establish an exercise habit successfully. His findings have received international attention from various media sources, such as the Canadian Psychological Association, Psychology Today, and the Wall Street Journal. He also enjoys translating his findings to relevant communities, such as individuals affected by heart disease, gym/recreation centers, and the Alzheimer’s Society. His primary research focus includes using theory-based approaches to understand the determinants of engaging in regular physical activity, along with its related health outcomes.
Dr. Silvia M. Bigatti is a Professor of Community and Global Health at Indiana University Indianapolis. She graduated from the Joint Program in Clinical Psychology between the University of California San Diego and San Diego State University. Her degree is in Clinical Psychology, with a Behavioral Medicine specialization. She completed her clinical internship at the Yale University School of Medicine. Since obtaining her degree, Dr. Bigatti has been an academician and researcher, with over 60 publications and well over 150 research presentations at local, national, and international scientific conferences. She is the Director of the CEnR to Impact Health Equity Consortium, IUI, the Navigator of Indiana CTSI, and the IUI Liaison of the Community Health Partnerships Program of the Indiana CTSI. Her research interests mainly include behavioral health, cancer, health disparities and equity, health education and literacy, maternal and child health, and women’s health.
Dr. NiCole R. Keith is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and the Executive Associate Dean in the School of Public Health, Bloomington. She earned a B.S. degree in Physical Education from Howard University in 1992, an M.S. degree in Exercise Science from the University of Rhode Island in 1994, a Ph.D. degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Connecticut in 1999, and an M.S. degree in Clinical Research from Indiana University in 2011. She has served on the IU Bloomington faculty since 2023. She is also a research scientist at the IU Center for Aging Research in the IU School of Medicine and a Regenstrief Institute investigator. Dr. Keith was the 2020–2021 American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Vice President of Membership, Communication, Education, and Policy, the 2020–2021 ACSM President, and serves on several other ACSM national committees. A Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology (NAK), Keith serves on the NAK Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Presidential Committee, the Membership Committee, and the Editorial Board. She is currently the Chair of the National Physical Activity Plan and serves on the Physical Activity Alliance Advisory Committee. Her areas of expertise mainly include physical activity, healthy aging, health equity, physical fitness, implementation science.
